How to unpack Switch ROM files and check what is inside

Why unpack at all

Unpacking confirms a download is complete, tells you the real Title ID and version, and shows whether an update or DLC is bundled in.

Check the Title ID

Compare the Title ID inside the file against the one listed on the entry. A mismatch means you have a different region or a different release than you expected.

Verify the download

Compare the file size against the size shown in the download panel. A file noticeably smaller than listed is an incomplete download and will fail to install.

Bundled updates

Some releases include the update inside the base file. The version history on each entry records which build the current mirror contains.
